Cardiac Arrest and Heart Attack are not the same!
What you need to know to properly judge if someone is suffering from sudden cardiac arrest or if they are having a heart attack.
- Cardiac Arrest: is an electrical malfunction in the heart that causes an irregular heartbeat, also known as, arrhythmia. This disrupts the flow of blood to the brain, lungs and other organs. It is a leading cause of death to many Americans.
- Heart Attack: is when a blocked artery keeps oxygen-rich blood from reaching the heart. If the blocked artery is not reopened quickly, the part of the heart that relies on that particular blood for nourishment begins to die. The longer that a person goes without treatment, the greater the damage that will happen.
